As the music director at both Resurrection Presbyterian and Sunnyside Reformed Church, I’ve had the pleasure of composing music for weekly services. Often those songs were difficult to find (with broken links and jarring audio samples), and when I did manage to find a song I appreciated, it was often difficult to download and print (with confusing formats, incomplete charts, or copyright obstacles).
So, I decided to solve this problem while giving myself the challenge of composing a new song once a week. For every Sunday in 2010, I followed the lectionary readings for the week and composed original music for a corresponding sacred text. I then posted a demo .mp3 and a lead sheet for these new songs, custom designed to guide a listener through a full year of the church liturgical calendar.
